How often do you practice your shooting skills? Take a moment to think about that, can you recall the exact day of your most recent range trip? If you can’t, it has been too long; get out there and practice! Shooting is a perishable skill, so regular practice is necessary to stay at the top of your game. Not only that but it’s fun, relieves stress, is a great opportunity to bring along new shooters, and meet people with similar interest.
In the 1984 film The Karate Kid, Daniel was lucky to find Mr. Miyagi who put him through a lot of practice and training. At first he was getting frustrated doing all those chores and thought he was wasting his time, but he honored his agreement and did everything the way he was instructed. It was not always evident to Daniel how his training would lead to success.
When Daniel was fed up, he confronted Mr. Miyagi, who responded by attacking with karate. To Daniel’s surprise, he answered automatically (unconscious competence) with the motions he learned performing the chores; at that moment he realized that he did learn something about karate after all. Every training class I have taken, I have learned something. Learn the right way to do things and that will serve you well. Sign up for training at your local range, Find Your Mr. Miyagi.
